27th November, 1947 The College Started to function formally with the departments of English, Bengali, Sanskrit, History, Logic, Elements of Civics and Economics, Mathematics, Commerce, Chemistry, Physics, Biology to the I.Sc. Standard with 105 students and 4 full time teachers.
1950 B.A Course was introduced.
1952 B.Sc. Course was introduced.
1956 NCC was introduced in the College. Three teachers namely Niren Bandopadhyay, Sachindra Mohan Mukhopadhyay and Ambarnath Ghoshal went Fort William to learn all about NCC.
1957 Bengali Honours was introduced.
1st July, 1962 Department of B.Ed was established.
1971 A Relief Camp was established in the college premises under Indo-Banga Sahayak Samiti, where 5000 refugees got shelter.
1998 Department of Travel and Tourism Management Introduced.
2005 NAAC accreditation with Grade ‘A’.
2008 College was affiliated to WBSU.
2008 Bengali PG introduced.
2012 General course of Botany, Zoology, Geography, Music, Journalism and Mass Communication, Computer Science and Physical education introduced.
2013 General courses of Sociology and Anthropology introduced.
2016 NAAC accreditation with Grade ‘A’, Cycle 2.
2017 PG Education was introduced.
2018 Honours courses of Anthropology, Botany, Zoology, Computer Science, Geography, Music, Journalism and Mass Communication introduced.
