HistoryAbout the DepartmentThe Department of History at Gobardanga Hindu College stands as a testament to the rich legacy of academic excellence and cultural heritage. Founded in the historic year of 1947, with the vision of imparting quality education in the realm of historical studies, the department has evolved into a distinguished centre for learning, research, and scholarly discourse. Course Offered: The department had been offering Undergraduate (UG) courses in History under the CBCS framework from 2018. The UG program includes an Honours course with a duration of three years, spanning six semesters. A three-year general course also spread across six semesters. This course is designed to provide students with a broader understanding of history, catering to those who seek a general education in the subject. In 2020, the department took a significant stride forward with the introduction of a Postgraduate (PG) course in History under the CBCS framework. This two-year program, spread across four semesters, is designed to provide students with a deeper and more specialized understanding of historical studies. From 2024 onwards, the department has integrated NEP-aligned courses and pedagogical practices into its curriculum, emphasizing critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning, and holistic development. The History Department offers two Add-on courses: "Collection and Preservation of Local and Oral History with Special Emphasis on North 24 Parganas" (Academic Session 2018-19).
